Academic Cooperation Agreements

The internationalization is one of the guidelines of the University of São Paulo (USP). It understood that it is extremely relevant to establish strategic partnerships with entities from different countries for the creation of new integration ties and also for the maintenance and strengthening of the existing ones. The students and professors mobility, as well as the participation in networks and consortia clearly show that goal. The USP Agency of National and International Cooperation (Aucani) is the responsible body for making these partnerships available within the general scope of the University and, each Unit, through its international office, is responsible for each local area.

Among USP’s current internationalization goals, we can highlight: i. The stimulation of the international qualified presence in the Post-Graduation Programs; ii. The consolidation of the academic communication in English; iii. The increase in agreements with institutions in Asia and in Africa; iv. The merit associated with the social condition in the student mobility; v. The specific support for newly hired teachers in stablishing international connections; and vi. The improvement of initiatives to welcome foreign students.

In accordance with USP’s internationalization strategy, since 2003, the Law School has had its own internationalization Program, supported by its own infrastructure, through the International and National Cooperation Commission (CCInN). Under this perspective, the Post-Graduation Program frequently develops innumerable international activities, supported by agreements signed with several foreign Universities and Research Institutions, around the world. The institutional activities of international cooperation result in the arrival of countless foreign professors to the Law School of the University of Sao Paulo (USP) and in the participation in various activities, abroad, of the teachers and students of the program.

International Agreements

n addition to more than 450 international cooperation agreements, currently in force between the University of São Paulo and several foreign Universities, the Law School has more than 50 specific active agreements with Universities in 20 countries, aiming at cooperating activities in research, in Post-Graduation courses and in Doctorate dual degree, as well as the exchange of professors and students (especially, within the scope of the Program, but which, in some cases, also cover undergraduate and Postdoctoral studies).

From the analysis of such specific agreements, the geographical scope stands out, which comprises the European continent, the Americas and Asia. In this sense, it must be mentioned, the current concern of the program, in fostering links with the African educational institutions, such as the Eduardo Mondlane University ( Maputo – Moçambique), with which an International cooperation agreement was signed in 2019. Such scope allows for a successful academic exchange, due to the contact with different legal systems and their respective doctrines, enhancing the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge, in addition to a deeper formation in the ambit of Post-Graduation.
