Although it was a concept originally aimed at companies (European Commission Green Paper – 2001), several public institutions have started to adopt procedures towards social responsibility, understandable within several areas, that is present in the Postgraduate Program of the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP).
In this sense, within the scope of teaching, research and also the extension courses, the Program develops several activities aimed at the social responsibility, in search of a fairer and less unequal society, with respect to the primacies ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance. This implies activities developed on a more environmentally sustainable basis, be it in the ecological sphere, at work or in what involves it, in order to mitigate negative externalities.
This occurs in teaching activities when knowledge is taught based on such guiding principles, especially for the reduction of regional inequalities. Among other actions, the Program created by the Pro-Rectory of Post–graduation, and immediately implemented by the CPG-FD, allows the possibility of master or doctoral students from other Postgraduate degrees to join the Program, take advantage of the credits , enjoy academic coexistence, use the bibliographic collection and other facilities. The same profile of reducing regional inequalities, although it is not the only parameter, is present in the post-doctoral activities coordinated by the research commission of the Faculty of Law, and developed jointly, by the Post-graduation Commission.
The social responsibility is also present in the research area, which is developed under the ethical principles established by the Ethics Commission in Research of the Law School and also by the University of São Paulo (USP), through which all the researches are conducted and encompass human beings, the basis of many field works in different areas, as for example the ones that comprise, either the family Law or the prison population.
Another approach occurs in the scope of extension activities, through actions focused on supporting government’s activities, by participating in public committees, to improve the Government’s norms or actions in which many teachers have part, among others.
The actions symbolize active citizenship activities, the key characteristic of the almost bicentennial Law School of the University of São Paulo (USP) and incorporated into the everyday life of the actions in the area of Post–graduation.
