Physical facilities of both the Law School and the Program

Physical Structure

The Post-Graduation Program is located in the building of the Law School of the University of São Paulo. With its own academic and administrative infrastructure, it also makes use of the entire structure made available by the Law School (it is located outside the University Campus – University City) and by the University itself.

The Program has both the administration and the secretariat located on the 3rd floor of the building, attached to the Law School, currently occupying 5 (five) rooms, used to provide technical-administrative support to the Coordination, to the archives and to the meetings, all equipped with computers, access to internet and multimedia equipment. The secretariat of the Program has 7 (seven) own employees and 2(two) interns, and it is open, daily, for assistance. Also, on the same floor, there are 5 (five) classrooms, equipped with whiteboards, data projector and internet access and bathroom, and it is worth mentioning that all these facilities have accessibility for people with special needs, including four elevators.

In addition to this, each one of the 9 (nine) Departments of the Law School of the University of São Paulo has offices for the professors, meeting rooms and classrooms with internet access and multimedia equipment, which allow the use by research groups, providing assistance for students under tutoring and for the development of didactic activities.

Also, in the building attached to the Law School, it is located the Scientific Room, equipped with 12 computers, with internet access, printer and air conditioning, for the exclusive use of students and professors of the Post-Graduation Program.

The main building of the Law School, connected to the annex building, by means of an elevated walkway, has dozen of classrooms that can also be used for didactic activities of Post-Graduation, as well as 7 (seven) auditoriums with capacity between 150 and 800 people, air-conditioning, internet access and multimedia equipment, making it possible to carry out Defence Boards and events, including by remote access.

Internationalization StructureIn accordance with the USP internationalization strategy, since 2003, the School of Law has had its own Internationalization Program supported by its own infrastructure, through the Commission for International and National Cooperation (CCInN). This Commission is composed of five members (4 professors and an assistant for international relations) and it is located in the physical space of the Law School, with work rooms, assistance and meeting rooms, equipped with computers, internet, air conditioning and communication and multimedia resources to assist professors, students and researchers.

Among the activities developed by the CCInN, are the elaboration and processing of drafts of international cooperation agreements, the definition and processing of selection procedures for international student exchanges; the definition of rules for the acceptance of foreign teachers and students; the assistance and forwarding of institutional development requests for international mobility of professors, the reception and monitoring of foreign teachers, students and researchers in exchange activitiesor cooperation with the Law School; the monitoring and operational assistance of the students, professors and researchers of the Law School in exchange programs or cooperation missions abroad and the organization and dissemination of material from the activities offered by the Institution to foreign institutions.

The internationalization infrastructure of the Law School has allowed the development of innumerable initiatives in this area, in particular, within the ambit of the Post-Graduation Program, among which one can mention actions to promote the arrival of foreign professors for Post-Graduation and research; visits by teachers of the Program to foreign institutions for the implementation of existing agreements and the negotiation of new ones; and the international mobility of professors and students (foreign and national ones) for exchange activities and scientific knowledge.

Computer Resources

The Technical Section of computing of the Law School of the University of São Paulo has a computer laboratory called the Scientific Room, intended exclusively for professors, employees and students of the Post-Graduation Program in Law. It is equipped with 18 (eighteen) microcomputers and 01 (one) network printer, in addition to internet access, office programs – Office style – and access to restricted International Databases and to online Libraries.

The Technical Section of computing develops activities, such as: password authentication, print quota control, password query systems, technical assistance to users and availability for application of tests and online testing. It is open from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 9 pm.

The systems developed by the Technical Section of Computing are:

– Online registration system for candidates interested in the Post-Graduation Vacancies.

– System for the Post-Graduation selection process.

– System for Master’s and Doctoral Defence Boards for the Post-Graduation.

– Update of the Post-Graduation page on the website of the Law School of the University of São Paulo, by inserting news, events, calls, ordinances, administrative information of the Secretariat of the Post-Graduation, calendars and class schedule and providing assistance.

Accessibility

Despite being a historic building, it has been fully adapted for the accessibility of people with disabilities. This has been a constant concern, not only on the part of the Commission of Post-Graduation, but also on the part of both the University Directorate and the University itself. This is a right of the general public, especially directed at the PCD that make up the teaching staff, the students and the employees staff of the USP system. Thus, it stands out as an example of the elimination of physical environmental barriers in the Post-Graduation Program, such as the existence of adapted toilets, access ramps for wheelchair users, classrooms, library and auditoriums with access and adequate space, and adapted and signalled elevators, both in the main building, as well as in the annex building. The annex building has also a suitable garage that allows for disembarking and direct access to the elevators that lead to the Program’s secretariat and to the Program’s classrooms.

On the other hand, in order to guarantee social accessibility, the Program has a restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the annex building of the Law School, aimed at students of Graduation, Post-Graduation and Special students. This restaurant is part of the USP meal tray service, supervised by the Superintendencia de Assistencia Social – SAS, (Superintendency for Social Assistance) and offers nutritious meals, at a very affordable price.
